The bar chart illustrates how the age of citizens in Iceland varied from 1990 to 2020. Overall, there was a decrease in the age of the population in three categories examined, namely 0-14, 15-24 and 55-64. with 65 and over witnessing the most relative stability. In addition, 25-54 recorded the highest figure throughout the period. Looking first at two age groups, namely 25-64 and 65 and over, the age started at just over 30% and around 13% respectively in 1990. Subsequently, the categories aged at 25-64 saw an upward trend and reach the end of the period at approximately 49%, becoming the dominant. Conversely, the population of Iceland aged at 65 and over reached a plateau between 1990 and 2000 before rising slightly to almost 15% in the next 10 years. However, it had fallen marginally to about 14% by 2020. Turning to the other age groups, around 28% of Iceland citizens was aged at 0-14 in the beginning of the period, after which it stabilized before declining marginally to just under 20% in 2020. Similar, the figure for 15-54 was at approximately 22% in 1990, with a subsequent dramatic decrease before ending the period at roughly 7% in 2020. Regarding the group aged at 55-64, after starting the period at almost 14%, it saw a downward trend throughout the years, thereafter, it surpassed the 15-24 at around 10% at the end.
