Introduction

There are critics who persist in the ban of sports tournaments as children’s poor mental state derives from such. However, I maintain that this view may be counter-intuitive in most of the cases and the encouragement to participate in sporting events would offer more mental benefits to the young.

Body

On the one hand, that children actively compete in sports games can instill valuable life skills and foster resilience among youth. Compared to conventional sports games that children play, taking part in a competition means that children are more determined to win. This pressure to perform well and the fear of being eliminated can act as a catalyst that gradually hones and builds resilience against such pressure from one game to another. They can manage stress more properly, know how to overcome setbacks to strive for a collective goal, and be able to keep a positive mentality after failure. This stable emotional foundation would mean even more if young participants are to face adversity in the future such as exams pressures or adultery issues. On the other hand, it can be acknowledged that competitive sporting events can overwhelm children mentally. In several cases, the young do not possess exceptional physical abilities to be eligible for tournaments. Despite that, some parents and coach teachers persist that children join to train resilience and competitive spirit as aforementioned. This mismatch between intrinsic capacity and parental wishes may not only cause intense stress but also pose risks of injury that demotivate children from further participation. However, this concern may hinder children’s further development. Experiencing manageable levels of stress and occasional setbacks plays an essential part in children’s comprehensive growth. The origin of their stress would not lie on the sport competition, but on how parents encourage and orientate the correct sport that best suits their mental and physical attributes. Therefore, I firmly believe that the appropriation in orientation and proper encouragement should be the ideal solution rather than prohibiting sports competition.

Conclusion

In conclusion, banning competitive sporting events can present minor harm to children’s mental health, but they do offer valuable qualities that are essential to their comprehensive development. I am convinced that the negative aspects of competitions can be eliminated if parents are aware of their children’s capability and set up the correct path.
