Raising children is one of the most difficult things. There is a growing debate whether childfren should have freedom to learn from their mistakes or adults should prevent them from making ones. In my view, children benefit greatly from making low-risk, reversible errors, but adults should intervene immedidately when a decision could lead to serious harm or when children lacks the knowledge needed to improve.

Allowing children to make mistakes can develop independence judgement. Experiencing the consequences of poor choice gives children direct and memorable feedback. For example, children who spend all of their pocket money immediately can be disappointed later, but this minor feeling teach them to budget more efficiently next time. Moreover, if adults solve all children’s problems, they may become overly dependent on external guidance. By contrast, reflecting on errors and correcting it independently helps young people build resilience, critical thinking, problem-solving ability and self-confidence.Nevertheless, complete freedom is irresponsible because children do not possess the experience to assess the risk accurately. Certain mistakes, such as playing with fire, crossing busy road alone or sharing information online could have irreversible consequences. In these situations, adults have a duty to set the boundary and provide supervision. Intervention is also appropriate when children repeatedly makes the same mistake without understanding its cause. For instance, a teacher should offer guidance, although students should be encouraged to apply the explanation and find the solution independently.＋

In conclusion, neither a complete freedom or constant protection is desirable. Adults should permit children to experience natural consequences of safe mistakes because they are valuable opportunies to growth. However, they should step in when the harm is severe or when guidance is necessary for learning. After all, children are the future of humanity and adults have responsibility in navigating them on their learning journey.
