Body

One school of thought maintains that the conventional model of classroom instruction will become obsolete in the future. While acknowledging this viewpoint is justifiable, I am firmly convinced that the traditional classroom setting continues to play an indispensable role.

On the one hand, supporters of the view that the typical teaching situation of a teacher and students will be eliminated may believe that remote education is likely to replace this form. One major benefit is that internet-based education can expand educational access across geographical and socioeconomic boundaries. This approach may only require a digital device, particularly smartphones or laptops, and a stable internet connection, enabling individuals to learn from anywhere and not need to relocate or commute, especially for those who live in remote or isolated areas, or people who come from low-income families and disadvantaged communities. Such a benefit enables them to save money and access to high-quality courses from a prestigious university, which in turn expands educational opportunities regardless of location. Another advantage is that this form is likely to promote self-directed learning and digital literacy skills. While participating in online learning, learners must use digital devices and exposure to online educational platforms, thus refining technological skills, such as understanding how to navigate digital tools effectively, which is regarded as an essential skill in professional occupations like IT. Furthermore, they gradually understand how to manage time and complete assignments on time and revise independently without any reminders. These advantages enable learners to become autonomous learners and use digital technologies effectively. However, despite these advantages, remote education can undermine student engagement and learning motivation, thereby reducing the efficiency of this form.

To tackle this mismatch, I argue that the traditional classrooms are of paramount importance. One primary benefit is that this model can foster critical thinking. Students are likely to participate in teamwork activities with classmates and also deliver a presentation, both of which help them to exchange ideas with peers and gain feedback from teachers. After listening to feedback from classmates and teachers, they can give reflection, raise questions to discuss and then evaluate different viewpoints, thereby easily identifying misconceptions . As a result, they can not only broaden their knowledge by being exposed to diverse perspectives, but also refine their critical thinking and cultivate a deeper understanding of concepts. More importantly, this form of education may promote structured learning and immediate teacher support. When individuals follow a well-designed curriculum under the guidance of qualified teachers, including listening to lectures, reviewing lessons and taking tests, all of which enhance comprehension students' grasp of key concepts. In addition to this, when they encounter difficult questions, they can also gain immediate clarification from teachers, enabling them to gain deeper understanding and comprehend solid theoretical foundations through systematic instruction and teacher guidance, allowing them to build better academic performance.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while there are justifications for believing that the conventional classroom environment may not exist in the future, I would contend that this form still remains because of its several advantages in enhancing students’ critical thinking and academic performance.
