The bar chart compares the number of four types of materials borrowed in the UK public libraries during a 10-year period from 1995 to 2005. Overall, the library borrowing declined substantially over the period, with Childen's books showing the most considerable falling trajectory. Notably, although the figure for Children's books represented the largest value at the begining of the period, it was overtaken by that for Top Audio-Visual Materials in the following years. In 1995, children's book dominated the library borrowing with nearly 1113 million units borrowed by people, which was significantly higher than the figure for Top Audio-Visual Materials, accounting for 330 million units, while only 107 million Adult Non-Fiction books and 98 million Adult Fiction books were borrowed in the same period, a substantial gap compared with the number of Children's Books. By contrast, the data for 2000 exhibited a considerably different pattern, with the figure for Children's Books falling steeply to only 161 million, losing its initial ranking position. Although the number of borrowed Top Audio-Visual Materials experienced a moderate decline, it had established as the highest figure among all borrowed materials. Similarly, the figure for Adult Fiction books decreased slightly to 93 million, while that for Adult Non-Fiction books edged marginally up to 113 million, positioning it as the second lowest value compared with the others. In 2005, the figures followed an identical pattern, with Top Audio-Visual Materials remaining its leading position at 230 million despite a considerable fall. Moreover, Children's Books, Adult Non-Fiction and Adult Fiction witnessed a downward trend, finishing at 110, 104 and 60 million, respectively.
