The bar chart compares how the proportion of male and female academic staff members varied across seven different departments at a major university in 2016. Overall, Education was the most prevalent career choice among female lecturers, while Engineering was the top choice for male academics. Additionally, men held the majority in most faculties, whereas women only had a larger share in two fields. Business, Engineering, Law, Science appealed more to male lecturers. Notably, the largest difference between the two academics was documented in Engineering, reaching nearly 85%, which was nearly six times the figured for females. Similarly, men also dominated in Science and Business, at 62% for both fields. A slightly lower figure was seen in Law, where the percentage of male staff was 60%. Arts, Education, Medicine were chosen more by women.
