In recent years, personal databases have been a contentious issue, sparking numerous debates. Storing large amounts of personal information in big internet enterprises and organizations can bring an experiential benefit for users. However, from my perspective, its drawbacks, such as privacy invasion and cybercrime, are far more significant.

On the one hand, it is argued that collecting user data may bring a better experience for both individuals and businesses. Users’ browsing history is often stored, allowing internet companies and organizations to compare and analyze frequently visited websites, favorable topics, and purchasing habits. As a result, they can use algorithms to suggest tailored content for each individual. This, in turn, enhances the overall experience for individuals, where they can explore more things that suit their interests. In addition, corporations may increase their presence among targeted users. This is due to the fact that algorithms can suggest companies’ products or services that align with the customer’s demands instead of random ones. This leads to the brands being able to attract more potential customers, increasing their sales. On the other hand, opponents of using personal information by large internet corporations and organizations highlight several concerns. A major drawback is privacy invasion since the personal information owners nearly know everything about users from their search history, location, to daily habits. Consequently, users may lose control of their personal information and feel tracked as well as controlled by strangers. For example, the internet companies may base their information on users' addresses and phone numbers to send unexpected advertisements to private homes, losing privacy and making them distracting. Furthermore, the phenomenon also causes cybercrime. The reason is that large databases become attractive to hackers for various purposes. The personal information of users may be leaked, causing identity theft. Consequently, financial fraud may happen, stealing money from people. For instance, cyber theft may use information related to bank and social media accounts to conduct illegal transactions and serious traps.

In conclusion, although companies and organizations may improve individuals’ experience by proposing suitable content thanks to collecting personal information, I believe that the disadvantages of this are overshadowed by potential risks to privacy and finance.
