Introduction

While many regard the workplace as a natural source of both income and friendship, others argue that a richer social life is built among people beyond their colleagues. To my way of thinking, I totally agree with the first opinion.

Body

On the one hand, some people think that a fulfilling social life is generally better built outside of work, especially when workplace relationships are limited by beneficial career. To explain why people think that this phenomenon is true, firstly, friends outside of work are chosen by an interest and a shared values, not simply by chance of working in the same office. These relationships tend to be more genuine and less influenced by competition in the workplace. Secondly, in the long run, these relationships are also more durable because they do not depend on whether you continue working at that company or not. For instance, running clubs or evening classes in Hanoi bring together people with shared passions from various professions. This activity is linked by passion rather than obligation, these friendships truly reflect the sincerity and longevity mentioned above. It is relationships that based on free choice not the compulsion of work create meaningful social lives.

On the other hand, I believe that the work is a primary source of social interaction, especially when spending almost time in day at workplace. Initially, when people work together every day, colleagues can form bonds through their aims and experiences. As a result, there are some relationships are created at the workplace. For example, in several technological conpanies such as FPT, team-building and open-plan offices are designed to make the connection between colleagues easily. This constant interaction transforms the workplace into a community as the engagement mechanism suggests. Not only does a job provide a person with money, but it also can lay the foundation for social network.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I believe that a job gives people not just an income but also a chance to meet others and make friends. Besides, developing a social life with people who do not work with is possible, but people should not do that since this development can cause various potential damage such as burn out and lose motivation.
