The bar chart illustrates the proportion of self-employed workers of the total workforce in five different countries ( Russian republic, Slovakia, Czech republic, Greece and Turkey ) over the 10-year period. Overall, the proportion of self-employed workers increased in the Russian republic, Slovakia and the Czech Republic over time, whereas Greece and Turkey experienced declines. Additionally, Turkey remained the highest percentage in both years, while the Russia republic was consistently the lowest figure Regarding two countries that shared the highest percentage of employees were Greece and Turkey. The share of Turkish employees working stood at 55% and 38% respectively during the period from 1998 to 2008, which witnessed a marked decline in the workforce. Concerning Greek workers, who accounted for 42% in the first year of the survey period, then they showed a reduction to 35% by the end of the given timeframe, slightly lower than that of Turkey. Meanwhile, the Russian republic, Slovakia and the Czech Republic witnessed a relatively small growth. The Russian republic, which was the least prevalent sector, making up 5% in 1998 before increasing to 7% throughout the decade. A similar pattern was seen in the figure for self-employed workers in Slovakia in 1998, then continued to rise to 12%. The percentage of the Czech republic workers experienced an upward trend from 12% to 15% over a decade.
