Introduction

A rising school of thought maintains that students should have to learn financial education as a compulsory subject in order to have money management skills in the future. I do not completely agree with this sentiment and the reasons will be elaborated in this essay

Body

Admittedly, this subject teaches students to spend their money reasonably. Through financial education, students learn to not overspend to avoid debt, save up for emergencies or invest to raise their income. All these skills are essential for having financial stability in their adult life. Moreover, they will also be able to improve their academic results. That is because when learning finance, students have to deal with numbers quickly and accurately, which helps reinforce their numeracy skills. This will enable them to perform better in subjects that require calculation skills such as maths or physics. However, this could place an unnecessary burden on students. That is to say, these young individuals have already had a heavy workload with numerous subjects and a lot of homework, not to mention after-school classes they have to attend. Adding another subject can make their study more stressful and frustrating. In addition, financial education is impractical for people at this age. As students, they do not have an income or the need to deal with money, which means the knowledge and skills they acquire from this subject will not have any useful application in their daily life. Therefore, this could be a total waste of time

Conclusion

In conclusion, I do not completely agree that financial education should be made mandatory in the school curriculum. Although it can teach young students responsible spending habits and reinforce their calculation skills, it can also make them feel overloaded and does not provide any practical use for them at this age.
