Many people argue that free time activities for children should be organized by their parents, while others think that children should have the right to choose what they will do in their leisure time. From my perspective, a balanced approach is best, when parents help design a routine while still respecting their children’s preferences

One compelling benefit of parents organizing their children’s free time activities is that they can provide secure boundaries for their children while ensuring they develop both physically and mentally. Young children are unable to consider hidden dangers and children also prefer instant fun, many of which may encourage them to participate in hazardous games that may cause injuries or immerse in watching TV for the whole leisure time. Parental control now plays the role of creating the safety net, helping their children avoid dangers while developing. However, it doesn’t mean parents lock their child in a cage, instead, parents remove dangers while still giving their children the freedom to explore the world. Furthermore, youngsters also don’t have any preparation about their future, they tend to overuse their leisure time on one type of activity. In this case, parents help their children to introduce more beneficial activities such as swimming but still ensure their children feel relaxed. A balanced organization may make children develop both physically and mentally without falling into unhealthy or lazy habits.

However, allowing children freely to choose their leisure activities may foster their confidence and find their true passion. When organizing leisure activities by themselves, children learn to make decisions from choosing what to play to how to solve problems during playing. Through this long process of trial and error, children learn how to face failures and find their own solutions. In the long run they build self-confidence and trust in their abilities, which does not happen when they follow parental guidance. Having freedom to choose their free time activities also helps children expose to a wide range of activities such as sports or technology, over time they can filter out what they truly love. This, in turn, allows children to determine who they want to be in the future and make better career choices. For example, students who find their interests or passions since they were young rarely struggle with choosing their suitable universities.＋

In conclusion, while following leisure activities organized by parents help children to develop comprehensively in safety, it also limits their chance to build strong self-confidence and find their identity. Therefore, leisure activities should be organized by parents but based on children’s preferences.
