The graph depicts the distribution of employed males and females in the 60-64 age group across four countries over a 30-year period spanning from 1970 to 2000. Overall, it is apparent that there was a declining trend in employment for both genders throughout the years. Japan maintained the leading position in terms of employment rates, while Belgium recorded the lowest rate. Notably, a greater proportion of men remained employed than women in all four countries. In 1970, Japan had the highest male employment rate, with 79% of males being employed. Despite falling slightly to 74% in 2000, it still maintained the highest level of male participation. The remaining countries also witnessed a downtrend in male employment, with Belgium experiencing the most dramatic decline, plummeting to 19%. Regarding the employment rate for women in this cohort, Japan was again the leading country, beginning with 43% and declining by 3% in 2000. In contrast, the USA ranked second, with employment rate increasing from 36% to 39% over the period given. The figure for Australia was double that of Belgium in 1970, standing at 16% and 8% respectively. While Australia saw a 2% increase in its female employment rate, Belgium's level remained relatively unchanged.
