The pie graphs illustrate the proportion of sales for five different categories of books by a bookseller from 1972 to 2012. Overall, both types of fiction books experienced a rise in popularity, while the remaining books genre witnessed a drop in sales rate. Notably, unspecified books were the most bought books in 1972, but by the end of the period, adult fiction became the highest sold books. Regarding children and adult fiction, which both increased significantly in sales rate, becoming the two of the most favoured genres in 2012. The percentage of sales for adult fiction stood at precisely 20% initially, before becoming the best selling book type in 2012, accounting for nearly half of sales. That of children’s fiction started at a similar rate of one-fifth, which climbed gradually to 25% by the end. In contrast, other types of books decrease in popularity throughout the period. Undefined books comprised a quarter of total books sold in 1972, this figure dropped by half in 2012. In the first year, travel books had the least sales, at only 15%, which fell to only one-tenth in 2012, despite a slight growth to 18% in 1992. The proportion of biography books sales drop from 20% in 1972 to 8% in 2012, becoming the least favoured books.
