Introduction

In this day and age, as society evolves and becomes more complex and society, the impact of the transportation on the global pollution has sparked intense debate. While some people argue that the government should be held accountable for this problem, others place the blame on individuals. Personally, I tend to agree with the later view based on some reasons that are explained in this essay.

Body

On the one hand, it is reasonable why some people maintain that the government is responsible. To begin with, it is undeniable that governments possess immense power and abundant financial resources. In fact, many residents, especially low-income families, often face challenges in accessing zero-emission vehicles as these eco-friendly options are high-cost and unavailable. Therefore, the authorities can allocate funding for public transportation systems and offer subsidies for other green transportations to ease the financial burden on households. For example, in Sweden, residents are issued Swiss Travel Pass card, which allows them to travel without limits by trains, buses and ships in over 90 cities around this country. This idea can minimise significantly the carbon emissions and protect their urban environment effectively. On the other hand, I still believe that individuals should take greater responsibility in tackling this urgent issue. One of the reason is that many people tend to choose emission vehicles for the sake of convenience. Residents are in favour of using them because of their sense of freedom and flexibility, making government’s efforts futile and ineffective. In addition, the trend of purchasing unessential items is also a catalyst for transport pollution. Since the consumer demands increase considerably, the companies have to transport goods across long distances, leading the massive rise in carbon emissions. As a result, if individuals attempt to change their habits and avoid investing in unneccesary products, pollution can gradually decrease over time.

Conclusion

In conclusion, although governments may support citizens in using green transportation, I still believe that individuals play a crucial role in address the underlying causes of this problem as they can make their own choice in choosing suitable vehicles and essential goods.
