The chart illustrates how waste was disposed and its amount by using different methods in a European country from 2005 to 2008. Overall, waste was disposed the most at landfill in 2005, but it was overtaken by the burning method in the final year. The amount of waste disposed at landfill experienced a downward trend, whereas that of using the burning and sea dumping methods took the opposite direction and fluctuated mildly, respectively. In 2005, the most waste was disposed in landfill, standing at 1800 million tonnes, higher than that by burning and dumping at sea by roughly 4 times and 3 times, correspondingly. From 2006 onwards, this country recorded a consistent decrease in the figure of the amount of waste in landfill, plummeting from 1800 million tonnes to a low of 600 million tonnes. In contrast, waste that was disposed by the burning method rose steadily, from approximately 450 million tonnes to 900 million tonnes. Meanwhile, waste by dumping at sea was recorded the least in this country, with its figure increasing modestly from 600 in 2005 to just over 600 million tonnes in 2006, before returning back to the previous figure in 2007. Afterward, it stayed just over 500 million tonnes in the final year.
