Housing is one of the most basic human needs. While some people believe that the government should provide free housing for those who cannot afford it, I partly agree with this view because although support is necessary for disadvantaged people, individuals should also take responsibility for improving their own living conditions.

Proponents of the view that subsidizing housing for everyone is beneficial present some valid points. The construction of domestic structures is a massive undertaking, and many people struggle to save money for building their house. If their house is guaranteed by the government, they can afford to allocate their budget to other services such as clothing and food. Such growing demand may facilitate local economic growth. Moreover, individuals can reach their full potential and enhance their standard of living when there is no concern about accommodation. As a result, providing free housing not only cultivates a favourable living environment but also boosts the economic growth.

Despite the mentioned benefits, it is imprudent to ignore the drawbacks of this policy. It is true that the construction and maintenance of domestic housing require extensive fiscal resources. If such investment is not effectively managed, it may lead to a reduction in financial support for important aspects including education and healthcare. This can trigger unequal infrastructure development as the number of houses will outnumber that of hospitals and schools. Furthermore, when housing is fully assured, many people tend to rely on the government for other support such as food and welfare instead of pursuing a career. Such over-reliance may slow down the nation's growth and place a burden on society.

In conclusion, I partly agree that the government should provide free housing for people in need. However, this support should be limited to those who are genuinely unable to afford a home, while others should be encouraged to become financially independent.
