Introduction

In the context of a knowledge-based society, where only highly educated individuals are recognised and likely to be recruited for desirable positions. Therefore, looking for an occupation is a matter of concern, challenging many students after graduating. This issue is largely driven by an increasingly competitive job market and setting demanding standards for applicants. In this essay, an attempt will be made to shed light on the causes of this problem and offer some solutions.

Body

There are several reasons why many graduates struggle to look for a job. First of all, it is true that the labour market has become fiercely competitive, owing to the rapid growth in the number of well-qualified individuals, leading to the limit of employment opportunities. Thus, candidates with extensive experience tend to gain a distinct advantage during the recruitment process. Subsequently, the more intellectuals in turn cause stricter hiring criteria, which threatens to increase the unemployment among graduates. Furthermore, another major concern is the lack of maturity and insufficient preparation for the recruitment process may reduce graduates’ chances of securing employment. As lots of graduates may have unrealistic career expectations, seeking high-paying jobs and attractive working environments without investing enough time and effort in developing the competencies required by employers. For instance, leading technology companies such as Google and Microsoft expect applicants to possess not only academic qualifications but also practical experience and relevant skills, which demonstrates that excelling in one field must be not enough for high positions. Despite an alarming phenomenon, this issue can be addressed through several effective measures. To begin with, universities should place greater emphasis on practical training by offering more internship programmes and strengthening partnerships with businesses. This would enable students to gain hands-on experience and develop the professional skills expected by employers before graduation. In addition, students themselves should take greater responsibility for their personal development by participating in extracurricular activities, earning professional certificates, and improving transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. These efforts would make them more competitive in the labour market and significantly increase their chances of securing suitable employment.

Conclusion

In conclusion, despite the growing challenges graduates have to encounter when entering today’s increasingly competitive labour market, this issue is by no means insurmountable. With the guidance from universities along with the effort of students to continuously improve their skills and practical experience, graduates will be better equipped to meet employers’ needs and enhance their long-term career prospects.
