There is a common belief that the rising wave of online shopping will one day force all shops in towns and cities to close down. While acknowledging the reasons behind this thinking, I would argue that this replacement is unlikely to take place as in-store shopping has its unique features that online shopping does not have.

One major reason why e-shopping is popular and has become the top choice of people nowadays is that it offers greater flexibility and convenience than traditional forms of shopping. Rather than going directly to the store, online shopping allows customers to browse through products anytime and anywhere, which is not only suitable for people who are often snowed under with work, but also for the one who tends to hesitate and feel hard to make decisions while shopping. Moreover, online shopping allows customers to compare prices between brands or often offer lower prices as online shops do not have to pay for rental or staff’s salary while those fees are inevitable with shops and stores, making them hard to compete with online shopping. The unique features and advantages that online shopping possesses are the reason why most shops have to close or come to the decision of completely changing their business model to online. Taking Cá Chép bookstore as an example, this book store used to be very well-known as it was not only a place for buying books, but also containing various other activities; however, due to the trend of online shopping with many people decided to buy books online, Cá Chép bookstore finally had to close down last June after working for 15 years. This case shows us that the markets are becoming intensively challenging even for famous brands when there is the appearance of online shopping.

However, I believe that shops and stores can not be completely replaced by online shopping. First of all, in-store shopping allows customers to get the most realistic perspective about products and have the chance to try on, experience or get advice from staff members before buying. This can avoid cases of buying products that do not meet customers' expectations which can be experienced when shopping online as lots of people are fooled by edited pictures when they see it online. Moreover, physical stores also bring a sense of trustworthiness due to many people, especially elderly people, who are worried of scams and fake goods so traditional purchasing methods are their go-to. Secondly, stores and shops nowadays also innovate themselves by making it not just a place to sell goods but elevate customer's shopping experiences. Many brands open pop-up stores with massive decorations, unique concepts or add in activities which attract people’s interest. The first strategy can be seen the most in clothing, accessories shops in Korea or China, such as Gentle Monster placing a huge head wearing their glasses, while the latter can be seen in Lego as it lets customers build their own characters. These stores all get a huge amount of fame and attract thousands of guests by their innovations, which prove that stores and shops will hardly be replaced.

＋In conclusion, knowing that the growth of online shopping may pose challenges to local stores, I still hold the belief that this new form of shopping can not completely replace traditional shopping as shops and stores still offer customers different experiences when shopping directly.
