Turning to the factories, the number of businesses producing silk climbed sharply whereas beginning at 272 in 1851 and continued to jump dramatically from 1861 to 1881, approximately 538. Afterward, this numbers of factories remained stable despite declined steadily in several years and reached 673 in 1901.
