In this day and age, it is common to see children spend several time on digital devices, specifically smartphones. This trend is exacerbated by the early exposure to digital devices and the short attention span that most teenagers nowadays are facing with. From my perspective, it is more of a negative development.＋

One reason why children spend much on the screen is their early access to social media. Parents often equip their child with a smartphone, or also a computer from an early age, without any observation or approriate instruction about how to utilize it. Consequently, they are attracted by social meadia platforms, such as Faceboook, Twitter and Tiktok, which can keep them connected and allows for sharing personal experiences with their friends. However, at an early age, children can easily get cheated by anonymus or strangers, which can lead to cyber bullying and kidnaping.＋ Another factor of this phenomenon is the increasing importance of virtual tasks in education. In this digital era, students are required to search information and submit assignments online, and smartphones become the most accessible and convenient tool to accomplish this task. However, when exposing to the Internet, they often have the urge to check notifications from social applications, such as Youtube or Instagram, and are easily distracted by interesting online games, making it difficult to concentrate on the tasks assigned. For example, during the Covid 19 pandemic, all students around the world must learn to get accustomed to online-learning apps, such as Google Meet or Zooms, which also leads to the boom usage of social applications and exacerbates this phenomenon. A large number of students did not participate in the class, but spend that time on surfing the net and playing online games, reducing the effectiveness of the lessons and attention spans during work.

In conclusion, the excessive use of smartphones has resulted from various factors, from both children themselves and parent. It has badly affected the students’ ability to work and focus on certain tasks.
