Introduction

In recent days, in a number of countries around the world, some people contend that it is necessary to spend large amount of money on constructing new railway lines for very fast trains between the cities. Others argue that the money should be spent on improving and updating existing public transport. This essay will examine both these perspectives before agreeing that investing in public transport would be more effective measure.

Body

In the developed countries, spending a large amount of money on building new railway lines for fast trains between cities has certain significant benefits. This can be explained by the fact that these nations have the existing road and infrastructure systems that are stable and modern to have enough suitable conditions for fast railway lines. For example, in countries like Japan and Korea, the railway lines for fast trains have been developed considerably for years, where the trains can reach maximum at over 280km per hour; therefore, investing in this system would be more necessary for these countries to maintain a modern and industrialized society. This modes of transport also might be advantageous for people in developed countries since it allows them to save commuting time and travel in the long distances within hours, which is more convenient and efficient than ever before. On the other hand, I still believe that the money should be spend effectively on improving existing public transport. In developing nations, the current infrastructure cannot serve the high-speed railway lines, since it required many essential factors, such as the density of the population and the national budget. Funds should be invested in updating and improving public transport system in these countries to help citizens in many realistic ways. Travelling by bus or train can reduce a substantial amout of carbon dioxide, which is released by private vehicles, thereby creating the healthier and cleaner environemnt. In addition to this, individuals may not waste time unnecessary for commuting and travelling in rush hours, because around 20-30 people in one bus can reduce significantly the stagnation of vehicles in the crowded roads.

Conclusion

In conclusion, although the perspective that spending large sums of money on building new railway lines for high-speed trains is partialy supported and beneficial, particularly in developing countries, I argue that the latter would be better in almost countries around the world to slowly improve their public transport systems because of significant positives.
