The diagram below illustrates how one type of coal is used to generate electricity. Overall, the process consists several stages, commencing with the mining and crushing of coal before it undergoes a number of treatments to generate electricity, which is then supplied to households. In addition, by-products such as gas and waste heat are also produced during the process. Initially, coal is extracted from the mine before being crushed into smaller pieces. Then, it is fed into a gasifier, where heat is added to convert the coal into gas. The resulting gas is subsequently sent to a cooling unit, where part of the waste heat is removed before the gas passes through the cleaning stage. After being cleaned, the gas is delivered to a gas power plant, where it is used to generate electricity. The electricity produced is then supplied to households. Besides the main product , waste heat is also generated during both cooling stage and the electricity generation process.
