Some individuals believe that young offenders should be punished, while others think that their parents should take responsibility instead. Although punishing children is reasonable, I strongly believe that making their parents take responsibility is a more effective and fairer solution.

Admittely, there are some valid arguments for punishing young offenders. Definitely, it is the basic principle of justic that wrongdoers have to face the consequences caused by their actions. Otherwise, if the parents are the people who get punished, children will think that they can easily get away with anything, which can not correct the children's dangerous behaviour and also undermines the justice system. Moreover, punishment can act as a deterrent for other teenagers. This is because children may feel scared when they see other people being punished for breaking the law. Consequently, this approach can significantly reduce the number of young offenders.However, I belive that punishing parents brings more benefits. When parents have to face serious consequences for what their children have done, they may have stronger motivation to supervise their children better. More specifically, parents can notice and monitor carefully children's daily activities, friends and actions. This proactive approach helps preventing future crimes happening in community more effectively. Many people assume that a detrimental family environment is the root cause of young offenders in many cases. For example, children who grow up in abusive or neglectful families without effective guidelines are more likely to become criminals in the future. Therefore, punishing their parents is necessary in order to make them address the underlying problems in their families and create a safer home.

In conclusion, although punishing children can be an effective way to lower crime rates, I strongly believe that parents of young offenders shoud be the ones who take responsibility because they play an important role in teaching their children.
