One school of thought holds that spending time watching television programmes is beneficial for the improvement of teenager’s academic performances, so children should be exposed to television programmes both at household and school environments. Although I believe that this method has some certain drawbacks, I largely agree that learning from watching television is still a better option for children.

On the one hand, I acknowledge that relying on television for learning may have some negative aspects. The primary reason behind this thinking is that some television programmes contain inappropriate and harmful content, which may have a negative influence on children’s behavior. To be more specific, some children who spend excessive time watching violent and gun-related programmes may imitate aggressive behaviours and develop misperceptions of social contexts. Consequently, this leads to the deficiency of ability’s future generation, negatively affecting the national workforce and development in the long-term. Notwithstanding the aforementioned limitations, I am in favor of encouraging teenagers to study through television programmes for several reasons. First of all, these programs are designed with a wide range of sophisticated images and vibrant animations, creating motivation and interest for them rather than text-heavy materials in traditional education. As a result, children can boost their learning productivity more effectively and get better academic performances at school. Furthermore, watching television provides opportunities for children to access a large amount of knowledge, which allows them to acquire information beyond what is taught in classrooms. This knowledge can be applied in real-life situations, helping them solve problems independently and make informed decisions. For example, television programmes about environmental issues may teach children the importance of recycling plastics and reducing littering to maintain a greener environment.

In conclusion, although watching negative-content programmes can hinder the children’s growth, I strongly believe that the educational benefits of television outweighs its drawbacks when it is used appropriately.
