It is true that in certain cities, public parks and vacant areas are being converted into community gardens where citizens can grow fruits and vegetables. From my perspective, the benefits of this trend could exceed its limitations. This essay will clarify my opinion regarding this trend.

One of the primary disadvantages is the loss of public zones for recreational and leisure activities. For instance, once communal parks are no longer available, residents are unable to get access to such public infrastructure to improve their health and mental well-being, which likely leads to the downgrade of living standards. Another drawback of this trend is that gardening is a matter of preference, meaning that not every people are excel at this field. Therefore, trees and fruits should be grown at home, such as private gardens, rather than taking up public space for planting.

On the other hand, I believe that the total benefits of this trend could outweigh its disadvantages. First and foremost, such public green space in the metropolitan areas plays a crucial role in environmental protection by providing fresh air and shade for the citizens. Many major cities are suffering from air pollution caused by industrial activities and dense transportation networks. In these cases, trees and vegetations could absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen during their photosynthesis, thereby improving the air quality and reducing serious respiratory diseases. Another advantage is that products from gardening activities, such as fruits and fresh vegetables, might be of good quality thanks to cutting-edge agricultural facilities and investment from the authorities. As a result, such products could be sold to both local and overseas markets, which not only generates more profits and revenues, but also creates more employment opportunities for citizens to make ends meet.＋

In conclusion, I firmly believe that while transforming vacant areas and public space into gardens could bring about certain drawbacks, the benefits of this trend could outweigh its limitations.
