The pie charts provide data on what Vietnamese citizens used devices to surf the internet for over a three-year period starting from 2011. What is most striking when looking at the pie charts is entertainment, work, education and shopping saw net increases in their percentage, which contrasted sharply with that of communication. It is also important to note that communication remained the most common purpose when using the internet in Vietnam throughout. Looking first at communication and entertainment’s data, the former decreased from 63,2% to 38% during the given timeframe. It is also notable that communication accounted for a majority of Vietnamese people’s time on the internet at the beginning. In 2013, despite a sharp decline, communication’s figure continued to top the list. In contrast, entertainment rose slightly from 21,1% to 25% during these 3 years, claiming second place in the charts.. Moving on to the remaining purposes, work made up for 10,5% in 2011 before climbing to 15% in 2013. Besides, people did not use the internet to shop until 2012. However, it rapidly increased from 0% in 2011 to 8% in 2013. Notably, while work’s data doubled shopping’s in 2012 and 2012, its increasing rate was slower than shopping. Finally, education experienced a growth of almost 10%, reaching 14% by the end of the period.
