The maps illustrate the changes that took place in Shalton village between 1910 and 2010. Overall, the village experienced several structural modifications, with some additions and replacements of facilities. In addition, a number of constructions remained in the same place throughout the period. In 1910, within the triangular area formed by School Road, London Road and High Street, there was a large house surrounded by numerous trees. On the southern side stood a small house between a baker on the right and a grocer on the opposite side. By 2010, however, the large house and trees had been demolished to make way for residential buildings, whereas the small house at the southern end had remained relatively unchanged. Furthermore, the baker was converted into two houses, and the café was installed, taking place of the grocer. Outside the triangular area, the village underwent the transformation of a house on the northern side into a bank and the removal of a butcher to construct a new supermarket on the western side of School Road, with a parking lot connected to it. More residential buildings were built at the southern end of High Street, increasing from two to four houses. Unlike in 1910, a residential area was introduced, directly facing London Road, while the school and the post office remained in the original positions over the period.
