In today’s world, children’s development is usually influenced by surrounding people, especially their parents and teachers. For this reason, there is a belief that teachers have huge impact on children’s intellectual and social development than parents when they start school. From my perspective, I partly agree with this belief as it is valid in certain cases and partly disagree with this one because in some point, children are mostly influenced by their parents.

On the one hand, in children’s first few years of going to school which is primary and secondary stage, they tend to enjoy their childhood in school and hardly pay attention to teacher’s instruction and lessons. As a result, most of their time at school is spent on entertaining themselves instead of focusing on general subjects like math, literature and gaining social skills from their teachers. While that, at this stage of age, children often share their experience with their parents through tiny communication at home which offers parents much of the time to communicate and share their knowledge as well as social skills to help children develep both intellectually and socially.＋ On the other hand, when children grow up and start their highschool, they have to spend almost half of the day at school and go home just for essential activities like maintaining personal hygiene and do homework. Therefore, they spend less time on sharing with their parents in order to focus on school assignments which results in the reduction of parental influence on social and intellectual development. At this age, they already have enough awareness to start to learn and think leading to tendency to listen to their teachers’ instruction as it is the most important period of their life. For these reasons, instructors at this point have more impact on their developing skills than parents compared with the last period of schooling.

In conclusion, the social and intellectual development children get from school and parents depends on certain periods of time. In their primary and secondary school, parents’ instruction is the main factor contributing to children’s development, however, in the latter period of schooling, they are more likely to be influenced by instructor and teachers due to the increase in communicating and decrease in family interactions at home.
