It is widely acknowledged that children should distinguish between right from wrong at a young age. Therefore, people tend to believe that punishment is an effective way for children to learn this difference. Personally, I partly agree with this perspective that realizing their behaviors is necessary with suitable treatment but punishment shouldn’t be abused negatively.

On the one hand, children should be educated about right or wrong behaviors due to its significant benefits. This awareness plays a foundational role in shaping children’s characters. They have to be responsible for rude activities and remember not to make mistakes again. For example, some children who always live in their parents’ over-protection tend to fall into social vices. Moreover, strict punishment should be combined with educating. Parents can reduce their gaming time and pocket money or make them do household chores. This accidentally makes a clear boundary for children to realize that their behaviors can lead to unexpected effects.＋ On the other hand, abusing violent punishment can be counterproductive, causing mental harm or making children more aggressive and defiant. Parents should have some positive reinforcement and compliments to form good habits. For instance, they can give small gifts when their children get high grades at school. In addition, parents’ explanations and communication is a crucial solution as it not only strengthens family bonds but also restricts them. Sharing children’s feelings makes them feel less stressed about studying and parents’ compliments are always the biggest motivation for themselves.＋

＋Hence, I firmly believe that raising children’s awareness about how to distinguish right from wrong behaviors due to characteristics and social effects is essential. However, violent activities will destroy children’s mental well-being and make them fall into vices if parents’ connection and understanding to their children decreases.
