There are a number of factors responsible for the unpopularity in cycling. Chief among these is that some places lack safe infrastructure. Evidence can be seen in urban areas, where there are no bike lanes, which means that cyclists are forced to ride in the shared roads with cars and trucks, leading to more traffic accidents and dwellers' concern about safety. This discourages people from riding a bike in their daily life. Another reason is that cycling takes much energy. This is because this type of transport demands people with a high level of fitness and effort, especially when facing long-distance of moving and extreme weather conditions like heat or rain. This leads to the loss of individuals' interests in spite of this the trade-off for reducing adverse effects on the environment.

Various measures, nevertheless, can be adopted to tackle the situation. Especially, government measures about infrastructure and public awareness. Regarding the former, government should invest more money in cyclists' safety and security, which means that they should create more bike lanes and install more cameras, thereby reducing public fear of road accidents. This can foster a greener mindset and encourage people to travel by bikes instead of gasoline vehicles.
