Introduction

Environmental threats are a matter of concern to many people in this day and age. While I acknowledge that the government should continue allocating sufficient funding to local environmental concerns, I am firmly of the opinion that more funding is not the only solution to alarming problems such as global warming but also the active participation of individuals and governments is essential. This essay will explain why I hold this view.

Body

On the one hand, I accept that governments should not reduce public funding for local environmental issues. This means that sufficient public funding needs to be allocated to dealing with local environmental problems thereby protecting citizens to keep away from severe natural disasters. To be more specific, as climate change has increasingly become a problem, residents have been experiencing more frequent floods, storms and typhoons which poses a serious threat to people's lives and damages infrastructure. Therefore, governments need substantial financial resources to establish warning systems, carry out rescue operations and restore damaged areas. For example, the Typhoon Yagi in northern Vietnam in 2024 caused acute flooding, the governments allocated billions of Vietnamese dong to rescue residents, offer emergency supplies and reconstruct road networks and infrastructure. As a result, funding from governments plays an extremely important role in tackling local environmental problems.

On the other hand, I am firmly of the opinion that increasing funding is not the only approach but also individuals and governments’ actions are extremely necessary. Firstly, individuals should cut down on carbon emissions by adopting environmentally friendly lifestyles. In other words, using public transport, recycling household waste, and choosing reusable products instead of disposable items can significantly alleviate each person’s harmful emissions. Consequently, climate change could be mitigated, creating healthier living environments. Secondly, national authorities should introduce stricter environmental regulations rather than relying solely on larger budgets. Specifically, instead of simply allocating additional public funding to climate-related projects, governments should enforce environmental laws and impose heavy fines on factories, companies, and manufacturers that pollute the environment. For example, Singapore implements substantial fines on companies that exceed emission limits, which encourages businesses to adopt cleaner production methods and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, by enforcing stricter environmental laws from authorities, these methods promote environmental sustainability.

Conclusion

In conclusion, national authorities should not alleviate funding for local environmental concerns because they can prevent environmental conditions from deteriorating further. Additionally, financial investment alone is insufficient, individuals and governments also play a vital role in addressing threatening issues such as global warming.
