Introduction

It is undeniable that students nowadays usually bury themselves in tasks assigned by their teachers. As a result, there has been an ongoing debate about whether children should be given daily homework. While there are some strong arguements against the setting of homework, I still believe that it is a necessary aspect of education.

Body

Admittedly, there are several reasons why people might argue that homework is putting unnecessary burden on students' shoulders. First and foremost, it is not the only way for enhancing educational results. For example, Finland place less emphasis on standardized examinations and academic projects than many other countries. Despite this, Finnish students continue to achieve strong educational outcomes, alongside transferable skills without harming learning progress. Secondly, many parents would agree that the school day is already long enough, and leaves their children too tired for further study. Students, who have a thirst for knowledge, have little chance for self-studies and deeper research. Finally, it is recognised that although play time is just as beneficial as study time from the perspective of brain development, learners have to burn the midnight oil for the preparation of homework by deadline instead of enjoying these precious time.

In spite of the above arguments, I support the view that homework plays an important role in the schooling of children. The main benefit of homework is that students might inadvertently grasp the main point of the lesson and easily put into practice, which is more efficient than the traditional method, learning by heart. This means that they can alleviate their forgetfulness and improve mental agilities. Additionally, homework can encourage independent learning and problem solving, as children are challenged to work through difficult tasks alone and at their own pace. In doing so, they can develop customised curriculums and concentrate mainly on the weak areas. In my view, it is essential for students to develop an independent study habit as this provises them to work alone as adults.

Conclusion

In conclusion, homework certainly has its own drawbacks, but I believe that the benefits outweigh them in long term.
