Opinions are divided regarding the role of entertainment in the digital age. Some people believe that theatres and cinemas do not play a crucial role since people also get all their entertainment from online platforms. In contrast, others espouse the idea that theatres and cinemas are still vital for their economic and cultural values. From my perspective, I think both sides have their own merits; however, I believe the latter is more reasonable.

First and foremost, advanced technology has created a lot of convenient services that make a difference in human lives, such as online platforms. Nowadays, young adults are more likely to entertain at home due to its comfort, and they can easily escape noise from cinemas and theatres with a laptop or smartphone. This convenience is the main reason that young people choose to watch all entertainment online. Another point I would like to make is that online platforms and film websites have an easy assessment that people can watch movies without charge. Although these websites can have a lot of ads, this is an accessible way for young adults, especially low-income adults. On the other hand, although watching entertainment online is convenient and affordable, there are several arguments supporting the idea that theaters and cinemas play an important role in both economic and cultural value. To illustrate this point, I would like to mention that theaters and cinemas not only bring profit but also cultivate local culture and advertise it to the world. This means that it helps enhance economic value by bringing enormous profits from famous films such as Minions or Doraemon, as well as promoting social development. For example, a local cinema named Touch Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City that not only promotes urban economics by presenting Vietnamese films such as Co Ba Sai Gon but also develops the cultural identity of Vietnam.＋

＋In conclusion, while advanced technology can change the way people entertain, I totally believe that cinemas and theaters remain a crucial role in social development and cultural extension. People should have further consideration on this issue.
