＋The question of whether governments ought to allocate their funds to research and science is a contentious issue. STEM subjects are becoming increasingly important in our society: they are responsible for shaping our future in a positive way, through numerous discoveries and innovations. However, while I believe that it is important to invest in the development of the society, other subjects should not be overlooked because they are equally valuable.

First and foremost, it cannot be denied that science is conducive to numerous developments in a country; over the last decades the world has witnessed several scientific breakthroughs which have enhanced people’s overall well-being. Indeed, not only does science help humans to better understand and respect the nature with whom they need to live in harmony, but it also enables them to gain insights into the human body. For instance, important research centres such as Harvard University have played an important role in finding cures against cancer; thus, governments’ decision to channel their resources into science is bound to be beneficial for their citizens.

On the other hand, while science guarantees us a better future, subjects like history and geography should not be neglected because they are equally important. Indeed, understanding historical events allows modern societies to glean invaluable lessons from the past and to learn from past mistakes, thereby avoiding them in the future. Furthermore, investing in archeology or anthropology allows human beings to unearth historical roots and cultivate a great sense of national identity. As a matter of fact, it is fascinating for human beings to reconstruct the history of their people and learn about their customs and traditions.＋

＋In conclusion, while I agree that science plays a key role in shaping our future, I also believe that other subjects should not be exempt from attention because they are extremely valuable in guaranteeing us a better future.
