Essay

The given diagrams illustrate the evolution of horse over a period of 40 million years. From an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that there are four stages in the development: eohippus, mesohippus, merychippus and horse. Another striking feature is that each type of horse is relatively different from others in the appearance while there is a huge change in foot anatomy. Looking at the diagram in detail, 40 million years ago, the horse was called eohippus, with the foot including 5 fingers. Notably, eohippus is not only the smallest type but also the only one that doesn’t have the mane. In contrast, horse in the contemporary context, which is known as modern horse, is the biggest sort in the evolution. Horse’s mane and tail is most fluffy and its foot stands out in four structures. The modern anatomy of horse’s foot consist of one knucle, which is convenient for horse in the modern context. With respect to mesohippus and merychippus in 30 and 15 million years ago, these two are relatively similar to each other, with the medium-sized bodies and the three-knucles foot. Furthermore, these types of horse share the same in the development of the manes and tails, growing longer compared to eohippus. The mere differance between mesohippus and merychippus is the length of the middle knucle in their foot anatomies, with the latter is longer than the former.
