The question of whether students should be assigned homework daily is a topic of considerable debate. Although both viewpoints hold valid arguments, it is my opinionn that a balance of both is necessary for improved academic performance.

On the one hand, refraining from assigning homework every single day can present several advantages. As academic workloads progressively intensify and become more demanding, numerous students find themselves with minimal free time. Reducing the quantity of assignments enables children to dedicate more time to personal pursuits and family, as well as engage in their hobbies. Furthermore, it helps relieve academic stress, burnout, fatigue, and hyperfixation through relaxation and socializing. In fact, various researchers have suggested that less homework can actually improve performance because removing repetitive work prevents learning from becoming a chore, encouraging curiosity and better critical thinking skills. From this viewpoint, lighter workloads can contribute to better academic performance through the alleviation of mental exhaustion and adequate time for loved ones, extracurricular activities, and unstructured play, which fosters social and emotional development.

On the other hand, proponents of daily homework highlight its role in reinforcing classroom learning and developing important study habits. They argue that consistent practice helps students to consolidate what they have learned, identify areas where they need more help, and build discipline and time management skills. Regular homework assignments can also prepare students for the academic rigour of higher education and future careers, where consistent effort is often required. From this perspective, daily homework is seen as a vital tool for ensuring that students remain engaged with their studies and achieve their full academic potential.

In my opinion, while daily homework can be beneficial, it should be implemented thoughtfully. It is crucial to strike a balance between reinforcing learning and allowing children time for rest and other activities. Rather than a strict daily requirement, a more flexible approach, perhaps with a few focused assignments per week, might be more effective in promoting both academic success and a healthy childhood.
