Nowadays, there is a high number of sales of common consumer goods that are influenced by the advertising’s power rather than the actual needs. ＋This essay totally agrees with this view.

Firstly, one reason for this opinion is that advertisements create artificial needs for people. Today, they watch many advertisements on Television, billboards, which can be looked at easily, and making people curious. Today, some Vietnamese choose to buy a cutting-edge Iphone, when they have just seen advertisements made in a personal way for watchers on Tiktok or Youtube, or because of a trend on social media. As a result, advertisements make consumers decide to buy items they do not genuinely need.

Secondly, another reason is that advertisements promote consumerism and materialism. Many beauty companies create advertisements that suggest people to purchase a good item as a key to becoming happier, more attractive. This means that it builds an unrealistic expectation. Chanel, Gucci or Unilever advertisements show a person becoming more confident after using their products. Therefore, this can build unrealistic expectations and make consumers believe that buying goods is the key to happiness or social status.

In conclusion, the high sales of consumer goods do not always reflect people’s real needs. Advertising can create artificial needs and promote consumerism. For these reasons, I firmly believe that many products become popular mainly because of advertising rather than genuine social needs.
