From my perspective, I firmly believe that these art forms should still gain government expenditure because of valuable education messages and emotional shared ability.

On the one hand, opponents contend that government expenditure should be prioritized for more practical purposes. Because of limited public resources, allocating funds to essential sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure that generates greater and more immediate benefits for society. Investment not only improves citizen’s quality of life, but also addresses pressing social issues. For instance, building hospitals, enhancing the school system or upgrading roads can benefit the larger proportion of residents by providing better healthcare services, improving education standards, and reducing traffic congestion. Furthermore, artistic preferences for each individual are considerably different, not everyone appreciates public artworks equally.＋ However, it is undeniable that arts nurture spiritual healing which brings greater advantages over public services.

On the other hand, there are many compelling reasons why governments should fund public arts. Firstly, traditional art forms such as folk arts and local cultural projects often possess significant educational value, which help younger generations appreciate and understand their country’s cultural heritage. However, these activities struggle with generating little commercial profit and may gradually disappear in an increasingly commercialised entertainment industry without government support. Therefore, public funding plays a crucial role in preserving historical traditions while encouraging the development of modern arts, thereby maintaining a nation’s cultural identity. Secondly, public art can also contribute to people’s mental well-being. Abstract paintings often convey profound messages about the artist’s emotions and personal experiences while creating artwork. For instance, The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh not only reflects hope and desire for life but also reveals the tragic circumstances of the artist’s life. As a result, exposuring to such artworks allows individuals to gain different horizons on life and appreciate the intrinsic merit of art, thereby fostering empathy and deeper understanding of others.

In conclusion, although practical areas such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure should mainly be taken precedence as providing benefits to society, I believe that public arts contribute to enhance the appearance of cities and foster human’empathy.
