Introduction

Some people believe that crime is the consequence of circumstances such as poverty and social challenges, while others hold a different view that it stems from an individual’s inherently bad nature. This essay will consider both arguments before proposing my opinion.

Body

On the one hand, poverty and social problems are key drivers of criminal behavior. Individuals who live in deprived areas often face poor living conditions; they struggle to make ends meet and limit access to quality education or healthcare. As a result, some people may feel frustrated, hopeless, and ultimately, they may commit illegal actions such as theft, burglary, or robbery to meet their basic needs. Furthermore, growing up in an unstable or violent environment can normalize criminal behavior, especially among young people who lack positive role models and self-awareness. Consequently, these social pressures create conditions in which crime becomes a coping mechanism or perceived necessity.

On the other hand, individuals commit crimes because of their personal nature rather than external influence. This view suggests that some people are inherently more greedy, dishonest, or lack morality; they may be willing to deceive, exploit, or use violence to pursue personal gains at all costs, even when they are not under economic pressure. In fact, cases of financial crime, such as fraud or embezzlement often involve wealthy individuals. Psychological or behavioral disorders can also play a major role in criminal actions. Traits like high impulsivity or total lack of empathy increase the risk of antisocial behavior regardless of background.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while there are cases where personal nature plays a role, I believe that poverty and social problems are the more significant causes of criminal behavior.
