The excessive amount of sugar found in mass-produced foods and beverages has become a major issue that leads to health problems of people. To solve this issue, many people believe that sugary products should be made more expensive, so that consumers will change their shopping habits, and buy less sugar. In my opinion, I strongly agree with the idea for some reasons.

To begin, there are two reasons why I support sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar. First, consuming too much sugar every day brings some major negative effects to people's bodies. For example, sweet items like fast food, cakes contain a massive amount of calories but very little nutrition. When people enjoy these products regularly, their bodies store the excess energy as fat. As a result, people will become obese quickly. Second, high sugar is a direct cause of dangerous lifelong diseases. Medical studies show that eating too much will cause severe conditions, including diabetes, and high blood pressure. These illnesses not only hurt the patients but also cost a lot of money for long-term treatment. In addition, other aspects can also deeply contribute to my opinion. A price increase will change consumer behavior, especially for student or low-income families. When a bottle of soft drink or fast food becomes more expensive, customers will think carefully before spending their money. Instead of buying unhealthy snacks, they will choose cheaper and healthier options such as water or fresh fruit. Second, high prices will force large food favourites to change. When the prices of sugary goods go up, sales will definitely drop because customers refuse to buy them. To keep their customers and make a profit, companies must reduce the amount of sugar in their beverages. As a result, products in the supermarket will become healthier for everyone.

In conclusion, with less sugar, people can avoid health problems such as obesity and diabetes, as well as better choices from both customers and food companies. Therefore, I totally agree with this statement that sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar.
