The charts illustrate that the figure for students of different nationalities pursuing education in Canada and the US from 2002 to 2003. Overall, the number of students compared between the two countries changed noticeably, especially for Chinese students, except for India's significant decrease. Besides that, Canada was a less popular destination to study than the US. Initially, there was an upward trend of Chinese students coming to learn in Canada, the number of pupils rose from 5,400 to 7,850 between2002 and 2003, which was about 2,000, meaning a plus 45 percent increase in learners pursuing education. The opposite was that, the figure of students from India hit a lowest point number in Canada in the same year as China. There was a considerable decrease of 35 percent, from 2,100 to 2,835 in 2003. In total, the amount of students from countries learning at Canada went up by about 60,000 to 70,000 in one year from 2002. The most striking feature observed was China, in 2002 the proportion of learners climbed rapidly to 110,000, and the subsequent year reached a peak point at 116,6000, higher than India.
