Word count: 250

Introduction

It is true that computers have become an essential tool for teachers and students in all areas of education. However, while computers are extremely useful, I do not agree with the idea that they could soon replace teachers completely.

Body

On the one hand, the use of information technology (IT) should certainly be an intergal part of every school curriculum. Schools must teach a full range of IT skills, from online research to report writing, in order to prepare their students for the working world. At the same time, technology is a powerful tool to engage students. The use of websites or online videos can make the lessons much more interesting, and many students are more motivated to do homework using online resources. Computers also make it easier for students to study at their own pace.

However, all of the activities described above require some input from a human teacher. School pupil need to be guided by a real person who can structure their learning programmes and support their use of IT. A computer can never really get to know a student and will not able to respond to problems, answer questions or give precise feedback. Consequently, without the presence of a human teacher, students may become confused and unmotivated. This is exactly what happened during the 2020 pandemic when both students and teachers realised that video lessons were a poor substitute for the classroom experience.

Conclusion

In conclusion, computers can help in the classroom, but they will never supplant human teachers.
