The line chart illustrates the global price of bananas in four countries, namely Japan, France, Germany and the USA, from 1994 to 2004. Overall, while the cost of bananas in Japan and the USA witnessed an increase, an opposite trend was seen in that of France and Germany. The banana price in Japan recorded the highest figure, while the figure for the USA was the lowest during most of the period. In 1994, the banana cost in Japan stood at approximately 2 USD/kg. Then in 1995, there was a dramatic increase in the figure of Japan to 2,8 USD/kg, followed by a sudden decrease in 2001 with 1,5 USD/kg. However, Japan's banana cost surged dramatically to 2,5 USD/kg in 2004, reaching the first position. Meanwhile, the banana price in the USA experienced a stable trend, with a minor increase from 0,7 USD/kg in 1994 to roughly 1 USD/kg in 2004. In contrast, the figures of France and Germany both recorded a decline throughout the period. In 1994, the banana price in France accounted for 1,7 USD/kg, then went down significantly to 1 USD/kg, followed by an increase in 2004 to 1,5 USD/kg. Similarly, the figure of Germany experienced a fluctuated trend. Starting at approximately 1,5 USD/kg in 1994, the banana cost in Germany remained stable throughout the period, with a slight decrease to 1,2 USD per kilogram in 2004.
