Opinions are divided on whether there is nothing that we can study from studying history or whether it is helpful to understand the present. While I may acknowledge the reasons behind the former view. I still firmly support the latter.

Those who believe that studying history cannot bring us particular benefits may offer several arguments. From their perspective, the advantages of natural sciences, such as math, physics, and chemistry, are far from the social ones, particularly history. In fact, in this period of society, when the computer major, medical study, or the marketing industry is rapidly growing, studying history is considered a blind alley for students who need to find a job after graduating. Regarding the second argument is that the situation in history no longer exists. The reason is that there is no war in the world anymore, and some terrible issues, for example, illness or hunger, are decreasing; thus, humans see history as outdated.

Nevertheless, I still hold the belief that it is vital to study history for being awareness of the past, for many reasons. Chief among these is that studying history raises in us an appreciation for having the present. This is because, before having such a good environment to grow up, people in the past used to suffer from a lot of difficulties to gain for us a peaceful life. Therefore, if we do not study history, I’m sure that we can not know about past events, and there will also be no gratitude or patriotism in our hearts. Another reason worth mentioning is that knowing about the past may encourage young people to make an effort to build the future for a country. Indeed, learning about the country’s origin, culture, and tradition gives young people a sense of belonging. By way of illustration, studying history, especially about the headwind journey of contributing a country, helps Vietnamese people to be proud and gain the determination to work for the development of their country.

＋In conclusion, it is understandable why some may argue that it is not worth studying history. However, I would echo the view that studying the past can help us better understand the present.
