The line chart illustrates the number of people using fixed telephone lines, mobile phones and the Internet in China in a twelve-year period, from 1994 to 2005, expressed in million people. Overall, the figure for the usage of the three means of communication and information access witnessed an upward trend in the whole period. Additionally, Internet usage was the least popular usage, while moblie phone usage underwent the most significant change in the time range. In 1994 and 1995, no great changes were recognized. Although mobile phone usage started to appear in 1995, its number of users and that figure for Internet recognized virtually no users at all. Conversely, fixed telephone lines were far more popular in the first two years with around 20 million and 50 million users in 1994 and 1995 respectively. From 1995 to 2005, the use of three means of communication and information access mentioned experienced significant differences. Mobilephone usage, although started to rose steadily in between 1995 and 1996, increase rapidly from 2000,s urpassed the use of fixed telephone lines in 2001 at nearly 250 million users, and reached its peak in 2005 of450 million users, being prefered the most by citizens. Furthermore, the number of users of fixed telephone lines also experienced a steady growth in the period, reaching 350 million users in 2005, while Internet usage remained the lowest in the whole time range, reaching approximately 200 million users at the end of the period.
