Some individuals argue that taking care of older people in the family when they cannot help themselves in many aspects should be legally a duty for younger family members. While morally younger people should be responsible for this problem, I strongly disagree with this viewpoint since government intervention ought to play a vital role in caring elderly citizens as they can provide better care.

Admittedly, it is understandable that younger members should legally support older people in the family. Since almost all parents or older people in the family devote a significant amount of time, physical and psychological health, and their financial budget to raise their offspring. As a result, when these individuals become unable to live independently due to age-related problems, their children should have a legal obligation to provide necessary financial and personal support, especially when they have sufficient resources to do so. Therefore, the process of enacting legislation for this responsibility aims to encourage residents to be more sympathetic with elderly family members, coupled with ensuring that no elderly member is abandoned. In the long term, this approach may promote society to become more civilised, mitigating the burden on the government, and enhancing social stability and equality.＋

Notwithstanding these arguments, I am convinced that this responsibility should be implemented by the government in order to ensure a balanced society. In fact, not every family possesses sufficient financial resources to look after elderly individuals, while they also have to deal with a significant workload, working overtime, and spending time to pursue personal preferences. Consequently, providing care for elderly family members may hinder them from accessing numerous opportunities for personal development, potentially leading to unbalanced life. Therefore, I believe that the government should apply several feasible campaigns to ensure adequate care for older residents. A prime example can be seen in Japan, which has one of the world’s fastest-ageing populations, prompting the government to introduce more effective policies such as a long-term care insurance system to ensure senior citizens receive professional care without relying entirely on their children. By improving welfare systems, installing more nursing homes, and upgrading healthcare services, older individuals therefore can be taken care equally, enabling other family members to work and study efficiently, thereby enhancing workforce productivity, improving business performance, and ultimately contributing to the country's long-term economic prosperity.

In conclusion, although younger people should provide care for their elderly family members as a moral responsibility, this support should not always be imposed as a legal obligation, as family circumstances vary significantly. Ultimately, I believe the government should play a greater role in addressing this issue by improving welfare systems and elderly care facilities.
