Some individuals contend that their sole obligation is to pay taxes, whereas others argue that citizens also have the responsibility to contribute to the community. This essay will discuss both of these views and believe that while public budgets are allocated to foster citizens’ life quality, taxpayers should also engage in volunteering activities and environmental conservation to improve social stability and natural habitats.

On the one hand, paying taxes is the compulsory responsibility of citizens, they believe these budgets can be utilised to tackle urgent social problems instead of themselves. To be more specific, citizens have to conclude taxes in their daily trade, while that taxes can be allocated to preserve the landscape, strengthen national education and support low income households. Moreover, many blue collar employees have to spend substantial time in their workplace and find it difficult to participate in volunteering activities. Therefore, these compulsory taxes have already acted as a compensation of every resident in maintaining the balance of social welfare and environmental conservation. On the other hand, citizens can make significant differences when participating in social campaigns to mitigate the financial burden on governments. A notable example can be seen in some developing countries with low budgets, many Communist Youth Unions are established to encourage the youngsters taking part in volunteering activities such as cleaning up their local river or collecting plastic bottles for recycled purposes. By doing that, the youth could be more aware of their responsibilities for the community as well as assist the government in spending the remaining budget to address other emerging problems.

In conclusion, from my perspective, paying taxes is the minimum responsibility of each individual, whereas taking part in social activities brings several benefits for the environment and community as well as promoting ethnic values among citizens.
