Introduction
Body
To begin with, it is understandable that junk food has increasingly become more prevalent and made the traditional dishes become vague over time. People have recently been busier than ever before, due to the blurring of work-life balance, pressure stemming form technology, and the desire for material realization. As a result, they may have little time for preparing meals and noticing their nutritional intake, and they come to fast food as a therapy. It offers convenience, flexibility, and enough calories or even higher than standard with just something not too costly or taking too long for preparation. This demand leads to the ubiquity of fast-food chains, and therefore gradually makes people less familiar with traditional dishes as eating fast food has become a normalized phenomenon, maybe becoming one’s eating habit.
Actually, this situation results in negative impacts on both families and society. Eating fast food may reduce the time for traditionally preparing meals, which is regarded as one of the most important factors in strengthening family bonds. When family members cook together, people will actually feel connected and acknowledge that they really have a certain value in a family. Less time enjoying traditional food also means less time for family communication, weakening people’s understanding and empathy. Consuming too much fast food also deteriorates the citizens’ health because these food contain too much sugar, , which later affects the society as a whole. High sodium and trans fat increase bad cholesterol and blood pressure, restricting blood flow and escalating the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Diets heavy in ultra-processed food are also linked to increased risks of depression, anxiety, and dementia.+ As people adopt this eating practice, they may gradually put traditional dishes’ values related to family bonds into shade, while deteriorating overall health themselves.
Conclusion
In conclusion, fast food’s appearance cannot be reversed or stopped as it still offers certain benefits related to convenience, flexibility, and affordability. However, consuming too much this kind of food will actually cause more harm than good, causing risks associated with both physical and mental health, along with the gradual fading of the core values of traditional food. From my viewpoint, fast-food chains should be controlled effectively in terms of people’s eating habit to minimize risks while optimizing the benefits.
