It is believed by many that it would be more beneficial to erect new houses and pave out new roads than to restore old buildings that would require large amounts of government funding. I would understand the logic behind this concept. ＋However , I would disagree to a certain extent.

Proponents of this view would have many statements to back it up. Chief among them would be that with new constructions we would benefit from modern infrastructure. For example, with newly built houses they could be designed to have great ventilation, modern air conditioning or be well-equipped which brings convenience and avoids too much planning towards house buyers. Additionally, with new roads we would be entitled to smooth driving and less unwanted accidents. Another reason worth mentioning is that it removes dilapidated and abandoned houses, which ultimately would solve many housing problems.＋ Nevertheless , I would disagree due to many reasons. First and foremost, many old buildings could have huge historical value. Numerous museums , though big or small , majestic or ordinary would contain stories and information of our ancestors or historical figures which can become great forms of education and sparks of gratitude towards those who have fallen. For example, behind the big city of Sai Gon , in a small alley way of district one we could encounter the “Sai Gon - Gia Ding special forces museum”. Though small , it is the only museum in Vietnam that holds the history of the silent heroes that have contributed to the independence of Vietnam. Additionally, this museum contains numerous gadgets that were used in the 19th and 20th century, which ironically are great materials for research. Another factor to put in mind is that old churches and cathedrals are the framework of religious beliefs. Many are undoubtedly the place holder for the faith of many, so without proper preservation and restoration , these buildings are unviable for visitation. Ultimately, this would enrage many and would start a public outrage. Moreover, if the government were to leave large numbers of buildings untreated and decided to build new ones instead it would affect the real estate price. Consequently, this would affect the lives of many young people. Graduates, who only just joined the working force , not only worrying about monthly bills but getting immense pressure from rental fees due to the rise of house prices. This would lead to the escalation of the homeless rates, ultimately greatly affecting the economy.

In conclusion, using government funding to invest in new infrastructure instead of restoring old ones would bring many benefits and conveniences for civilians. But the impact of old buildings such as museums, churches and the cost of such decisions overshadow the positives.
