In the contemporary world, while social equalities are being promoted, the representation of women in STEM fields is significantly low compared to that of men. This essay will provide the causes and solutions for this problem.

Admittedly that the modern society, which contributes gender equalities and social justice, has given equal opportunities to both male and female in career prospects, though it overlooks the impact of stereotypical gender norms. For such a long time, the majority of society imposes generalized standards for both sexualities. These standards consider women as emotional individuals whose capacities are only suitable for social fields, which requires high emotional intelligence and social connections while believing that men are logical individuals whose capacities are born for doing STEM fields, which is thought to be logical-thinking and evidence-based fields. Due to this, companies and workplaces always prioritizes men over women when recruiting their workers or promoting to higher positions, leading to limited opportunities for women having places in STEM fields.＋

Addressing this problem mainly relies on the government, who have the rights to enact policies which lead to changes on the large scale. One solution can be that the government enact legislation to regulate the recruiting phase of STEM companies. This will require these businessé to hire the minimum percentage of 30% female workers out of the total number of their workers, ensuring that females will have better chances in getting jobs which encourage more of them to opt in this field. Additionally, the government can increase the financial support in education to make adjustments on curriculum - adding lessons on changing the stereotypes of students on gender norms. Providing education and breaking the eco-chamber of gender stereotypes is the first step to change the way the society looks at women, starting from children who will grow up and hold the high positions of companies.＋

＋In conclusion, the underpresentation of women in STEM fields is mainly due to social prejudices on characterization of each gender. To address this problem, the government should tackle it through policies on business and education.
